Mystère by Cirque du Soleil is a vibrant
90-minute circus-style production that
combines whimsical grace and beauty with
powerful and precise athleticism. Mystère is
as colorful as it is amazing. With a cast of
75 artists, a live orchestra playing Taiko
drums, and a hint of humor, Mystère will
delight all the senses.
Upon
entering the theater, you may notice that
the ceiling resembles a traditional circus
tent. The show starts the second you enter
and if you’re not careful, you might be
starring in it! You might want to keep on
the lookout for an usher with a funny grin
and a crooked tie. It’s true that he will
show you to your seat…eventually.
Mystère found its home at Treasure Island in
1993 and has been a permanent fixture in the
hotel ever since. Mystère is a perfect show
for children of all ages, because the show
is bright and cheerful throughout and almost
never dark or scary. Another factor that
adds to the excitement is Mystère’s use of
audience participation. Like any circus,
there is a mischievous clown that is trying
to sabotage the show. He is, of course,
unsuccessful. The costumes in Mystère
are especially brilliant in color and
fashion. Head-dresses, masks, and exotic
face paint complete the unique spectacle
that is Mystère.
Much
of Mystère, described by director Franco
Dragone as "a celebration of the cycle of
life," takes on a circular theme, from the
custom-built, semi-round theater to the
globe-like ceiling adorned with art. The
muscle men perform atop a rotating dome. The
same Taiko drum that begins the show also
brings it to an abrupt end, taking the show
full circle.
